Back To Nature With Salicin Skincare: 3 Itch-Relieving Must-Haves For Sensitive Skin

Salicin Mister Wharff

Salicin, a natural-based brand that combines four key ingredients to soothe and repair the root cause of sensitive, irritated skin. Founded in 2018 by partner-in-crime, Lynne MacGregor and Rosie Vero that disapproved of using synthetic preservatives known to cause common skin irritations such as dermatitis and eczema. Yes, those beloved skincare staples that you highly-rate could well be the main trigger for those occasional flare-ups.

It’s always wise to strip-back on products every now and then to give your skin a little break. The constant use of different products in your proud bathroom cabinet can sometimes affect the way our skin acts and feels, which in result can cause an off-set of skin sensitivity and irritation.

The Cleanse & Calm Hair and Body Wash is what I call a ”reset cleanser”, a product that desensitizes itchy, sore skin from products reactions and common skin disorders. Salicin used ammonium lauryl sulphate as the key foaming agent within the hair & body wash. A cleansing surfactant that encourages delicate cleansing without interrupting the underlying layers of skin cells. Once in contact with dampened skin, the product itself creates a lightweight foam that delicately spreads as you massage with circular motions. You want to take your time by applying very little pressure onto the skin to avoid aggravating the infected area.

Let’s discuss the ingredients and what makes Salicin different from the mainstream brands that are easily available to buy on the mass market. Combining 100% natural ingredients, Salicin formulations are preserved without the use of artificial or synthetic ingredients. White Willow Bark is chosen for its anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory towards the skin. The majority of us know that Dead Sea Salt is a treasure for healing dry skin conditions, well, this mineral-rich salt is added into all Salicin products. Another familiar ingredient which is often overlooked, Aloe Vera, withholds a multitude of skin restorative benefits. From anti-bacterial to soothing relief from skin irritations, aloe vera is best friends with quite a few people over the globe. Acting as a natural anti-microbial preservative, Radish root ferment treats skin flare-ups which is often caused my eczema and dermatitis.

Next up, we have the Relieve & Restore Itch-Relief cream: a comforting skin lotion that pampers troublesome skin from head-to-toe. Formulated for the most sensitive skins, and catered for all skin types, this light-weight, easily absorbed cream instantly treats irritated skin as you apply directly on the troublesome area. There’s also a dose of Salicylic Acid that gently exfoliates, removing flaky skin from the surface. In my personal opinion, I would of preferred the cream to contain a couple of hydrating ingredients such as sodium hyaluronate or a vegan-friendly glycerin, an vegetable-derivative that acts as an emollient, softening and moisturising the skin.

I have a confession, conditioning the scalp and hair is something I very rarely do on a regular basis. I’ve never felt the need to use a conditioner after shampooing the hair and scalp, and when I have, my scalp has suffered from the heavy, artificial fragrance and unnecessary silicones causing a mountain of product build-up.

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with my scalp and I have to be extra careful on what touches my scalp, the majority of hair care across the nation is a big no-no for me, and although some may smell absolutely beautiful, my scalp wouldn’t be so happy even with an inch of contact.

Using the same plant-based formulation of ingredients, the Soften & Soothe Conditioner from Salicin is one for the sensitive scalps, like myself. As you gently squeeze the bottle, a rich, creamy white lotion appears, a consistency that allows you to spread over the hair without feeling heavy on the scalp.

I’ve been applying this regularly onto cleansed, dampen hair and scalp, paying extra attention to areas that need relieving from irritation. Hand on heart, I did feel a decrease of sensitivity and soreness from first use, and although this might not be an ”overnight miracle” for some, it certainly stopped me from constantly itching my head.
