sample collaboration with Algenist
Is Algenist a La Mer Alternative?
It’s a rarity for me to get very excited over skincare, but having heard so much good press and positivity about one particular brand, a ‘bookies favourite’ so to speak, this algae-powered skincare brand is one that got several influencers, writers and bloggers attention amongst the social media realms.
You could quite possibly call it ‘La Mer but better’ and by that meaning, the product formulas, the scientific background and a ‘clean + safe’ approach to the environment surrounded upon us. Introducing Algenist, the brand that may become your new BFF [or not]. Continue reading as I passionately express my thoughts on Algenist.
Alguronic Acid—the exclusive, patented ingredient by Algenist. But what does it actually do?
This clinically-proven ingredient promises to provide results in 10 days, Alguronic Acid visibly diminishes the appearance of fine lines + wrinkles whilst magically boosting other active ingredients inside every Algenist product. So for instance, retinyl palmitate, an ester form of Vitamin A that converts into Retinol thanks to the skin’s natural enzyme process. This active ingredient will also benefit from the Alguronic Acid boosting claims—although I don’t have the evidence to prove this, it’s definitely a USP [unique selling point] from Algenist, for sure.
Starting with the melting cleanser [titled: the ‘ultimate anti-ageing melting cleanser’] is one Algenist product I fell in love with at first use. Its alienated-colour and sublime texture that would even catch extraterrestrials attention. The product adapts to the bodies heat that stops the unwelcome feeling of dragging or pulling of the skin during your 60-second cleansing ritual [I say 60 seconds with a serious facial expression].
You will find a good selection of natural oils within the cleanser—avocado, olive and sweet almond oils. All three have deep moisturising properties to replenish + restore the skin. Algae Exopolysaccharides [a fancy word for marine algae], antioxidant-rich, this oceanic ingredient may support the reduction of skin inflammation. Inflammation is a biggie for me, and it’s one skin issue I like to ‘nip in the bud’ before it has the chance to progress into something serious.
Living with dermatitis on and off for year’s, I’m always wary of what products touch my skin, but it’s a pleasure for me to report back that my skin did feel soothed and comfortable after cleansing with this indulging facial product.
Mister Wharff recommends massaging the product for at least 60 seconds for a truly ultimate deep, detoxifying cleanse.
Introducing the GENIUS Ultimate Anti-Aging Vitamin C+ Serum from Algenist.
Using a stabilised Vitamin C derivative, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, the skin is able to receive the full, long-lasting benefits of Vitamin C. For me, Vitamin C hasn’t always been that kind to my skin. In the past, I’ve suffered from short-term irritation with products containing this brightening ingredient, so as you can imagine, I felt a little unsure about applying another product containing vitamin c. With my surprise, I experienced 0% irritation or discomfort—so this had me wondering, was it the type of Vitamin C utilized? The formulation of the serum? Or the mixture of two? Personally, I feel Algenist as a brand have a high reputation for being effective whilst nurturing one’s skin.
There’s Chlorella Protothecoides Oil that contains a generous dose of oleic acid—which provides essential moisture and vital nutrients to maintain a healthy, radiant complexion. A trio of Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP and Ceramide EOP improve skins texture, suppleness to the overall appearance. An array of wrinkle-smoothing peptides and vegetable collagen are also added into the mix—serving a purpose to plump, firm and lift.
Furthermore, a selection of skin conditioning agents and silicones are included to provide the skin with a velvety-like touch after application. The light, gel-essence texture from this Vitamin C serum takes no time to absorb, leaving absolutely no evidence of product residue. I have been applying the product for 3-4 weeks, once a day every morning to help defend my skin from sun exposure + ultraviolet lights. I haven’t noticed a drastic change in the appearance of my skin, but what I have discovered is a continuous, healthy radiance that provides a candle-lit glow.
If your skin is normally sensitive to acidic ingredients such as Vitamin C, like me, you will become pleasantly surprised by how gentle and calming this product feels onto cleansed skin. I then follow with my all-time favourite Tancream—an instant bronzer, self-tan and SPF 50. [tap on this link to read the full review on Tancream]. Using a well-formulated SPF like Tancream will ensure that you’re receiving a full-spectrum of protection.
